About

Martijn Dekker is Professor by Special Appointment in Information Security at the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on information security governance, decision making under uncertainty, security automation and the application of information theory to cybersecurity.

In addition to his academic role, he serves as senior executive and Chief Information Security Officer at ABN AMRO Bank, with more than 25 years of experience shaping cybersecurity strategy. He is also member of the advisory council of Dutch Statistics (CBS).

He is programme director of the Cybersecurity Leadership Academy at Amsterdam Business School. He is lecturer at Erasmus Governance Institute in the Masterclass Audit Committee and the new board programme at Nyenrode Business University and he regularly delivers keynote lectures and professional training on cybersecurity leadership.

In 2022 he was recognized among the Global CISO 100 most influential security leaders worldwide, and received this distinction again in 2023 (top 100) and 2025 (top 50). He is nominated for 2026 again.
